Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations show the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
An important representative stated the attack left him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
