Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
